74TH REPUBLIC DAY: MoD awards Kirti Chakra to SgCt Rohit Kumar, Shuarya Chakra to Ct Mudasir Ahmad

Jammu, Jan 26: Ministry of Defence has awarded Kirti Chakra to SgCt Rohit Kumar and Shaurya Chakra to Ct Mudasir Ahmad posthumously for displaying “exemplary courage” while fighting terrorism. 
Director General of Police J&K Dilbag Singh congratulated families of these bravehearts and expressed his gratitude to MoD for bestowing these honours on J&K Police. He said that recognition of valour and sacrifice will boost the morale of JKP personnel in the fight against different modes of terror. 
“Jammu & Kashmir Police shall always remember the valiant warriors who fought to protect our motherland and sacrificed their lives in action,” a police spokesperson said in a statement. 
Sgct. Rohit Kumar Chib
 
SgCt Rohit Kumar Chib, a resident of Jagti Nagrota, Jammu was born on 28 August 1989 and soon after passing Higher Secondary School he joined the Police organization on 30 June 2011 as Constable. He was posted in district Kulgam and had participated in many operations in which a number of terrorists were eliminated. For his dedication and devotion the department had granted him out of turn promotion in 2017.
On 12 January 2022, Kulgam police received specific information regarding presence of terrorists in village Sehpora Parivan. Instantly, District Police Kulgam, 34 RR and 18h Bn CRPF cordoned the said village and started door to door search. The search party approached the residential house belonging to Mashooq Ahmad Lone S/o Habibullah Lone R/o Sehpora Parivan and questioned the family regarding presence of terrorists but the family members strongly denied the presence of terrorists. However, the search party moved on to conduct thorough search of the house during which the terrorists hiding inside the house fired indiscriminately upon the search party with the intention to kill them and tried to break the cordon in order to flee from the spot. The fire was effectively retaliated ensuing in an encounter. 
Sgct. Rohit Kumar No.944/Kgm PID No.EXK118896, who was part of the CASO without caring for his personal safety, gave primary importance to evacuation of the civilians from the cordoned area towards safer places. While doing so with troops of 34 RR, CRPF 18th Bn. Sgct. Rohit Kumar No.944/Kgm was fired upon by terrorist resulting in his injuries. Despite being grievously injured, he displayed courage and exemplary determination and closed in on the terrorists. He engaged the terrorists accurately in close quarter gun battle and eliminated a hardcore foreign terrorist in a fierce gunfight. He received multiple bullet wounds to his chest and head, to which he later succumbed and attained martyrdom. 
The operation concluded with the elimination of one hard-core categorized terrorist and huge quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered from his possession. Later, the slain terrorist was identified as Babar Bhai R/o Pakistan of JeM oufit. 
Sgct. Shri Rohit Kumar's relentless courage and exemplary gallant action went beyond the call of the duty, exhibited exceptional skills and gave supreme sacrifice in his efforts for removing the menace of terrorism and for maintaining security of nation and national integrity.  Recognising the valour and sacrifice, Sgct. Shri Rohit Kumar (Posthumously) has been awarded with “Kirti Chakra".
Ct. Mudasir Ahmad Sheikh
 
Mudasir Ahmad Sheikh, son of a retired JKP Sub Inspector Maqsood Ahmad Sheikh, hailing from Uri area of district Baramulla was born in 1990. He was appointed as SPO in Jammu and Kashmir Police in the year 2016 and later was absorbed as a police constable for his extraordinary services. 
On May 25, 2022, acting on a generic information regarding movement of terrorists in Baramulla, multiple nakas were established at many places including near Shrakwara-Najibhat Crossing in Kreeri area. The braveheart was part of the team of valiant undercover operatives of Jammu and Kashmir Police and 52 RR of the Indian Army which intercepted the terrorists heading for targeting Amarnath Yatra. The naka party was noticed by a group of terrorists travelling in a silver colour Santro car, who started firing indiscriminately upon the naka party leading to a chance encounter. The terrorists’ fire was effectively retaliated and in the fierce gunfight, three foreign terrorists belonging to proscribed terror outfit JeM were gunned down. Incriminating materials including huge cache of arms and ammunition and IEDs were recovered from the site of encounter. 
In the encounter, the braveheart Mudasir Ahmad Sheikh received critical gunshot injuries. Despite profusely bleeding, undeterred by his wounds he continued to hold the terrorist in a hand to hand combat. In a swift response he opened a volley of fire to neutralise the terrorist. He however succumbed to his injuries on the way to being evacuated. The operation led to neutralisation of three terrorists and recovery of huge cache of arms and ammunition thereby averting a major incident. 
It is pertinent to mention that the said group of terrorists was active since long time in lower reaches of Baba Reshi forest areas and were being tracked. For displaying stellar gallantry, exemplary initiative, and unmatched courage while under fire, Constable Mudasir Ahmad Sheikh has been awarded (posthumously) “Shaurya Chakra".
