Another candidate from JK makes it to World Skills India National Competition

In total, 6 candidates from J&K have emerged winners at the Regional Skill Competitions


Bangalore:

One more candidate from Jammu and Kashmir has qualified for World Skills India National Competition leading to the World Skills Competition, Russia-2019. Today, Mohammad Adeeb Butt (19), resident of Jammu got first position in the skill category Beauty Therapy at the India-Skills South Regional Competition held in Bangalore.

Earlier at the India Skills North Competition which was held in May, 2018 at Lucknow, 5 candidates from J&K qualified in mobile robotics, mechanical CAD, graphic designing, patisserie & confectionary trades.

The winners of the regional level skill competition will further participate in the World Skills India national level competitions leading to the World Skills Competition to be held at Kazan, Russia in 2019. The national skill competition will be held in July-August, 2018.

It is the first time that J&K has send a team of skilled candidates to participate in the regional level skill competitions which are being held in different phases across the country.

J&K Skill Development Mission (JKSDM) in collaboration with its partnering institutions NIT- Srinagar, IHM -Srinagar, Central University, Jammu, NIELIT, SSMD-Baramulla and Arena Animation have been providing training and guidance to the candidates for the said skill competition.

“The result has again proved that youth of J&K are talented and all they require are exposure and opportunities to excel. The success is the result of last six months of rigorous hard work through which the candidates have to been able to put up a good performance at the competition,” told JKSDM official.

Mohammad Adeeb is pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in Humanities at Degree College,Mishri wala, Jammu and Adeeb was encouraged by his mother Salma to take up beauty therapy as a hobby.

“I am thankful to my parents who have encouraged me at every step and I am happy that I have lived up to their expectations. JKSDM provided the much needed support to prepare for this competition and without that it would not have been impossible for me to appear for this competition,” said Adeeb.

More than 300 candidates from 14 states participated in the35 skills Regional Level Competition at Bangalore. Anant Kumar Hegde, Minister of State, Ministry of Skill Development And Entrepreneurship, GoI, Rajesh Agrawal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development And Entrepreneurship, GoI, Jayant Krishna, Executive Director, National Skill Development Corporation and other senior officials attended the valedictory ceremony and felicitated the winners of the regional competition.
JKSDM had received 700 registrations for the India Skill J&K Competition-2018, out of which 20 candidates emerged as state level winners and in regional level skill competition, 6 candidates have made it to the next level (National level) of the competition.

Considered as the Skills Olympics, World Skills Competition is held every alternate year in different countries. At the most recent event, World Skills Competition, 2017 held at Abu Dhabi, there were competitions in 51 skills areas with close to 1,300 contestants under the age of 23 taking part and India bagged one silver and bronze medal along with 11 medallions of excellence. The next competition is scheduled to be held at Kazan, Russia in 2019. Pertinently in order to aim at engaging different stakeholders in skill building, entrepreneurship and grassroots innovations, the Jammu and Kashmir government recently held a two-day skill and entrepreneurship conclave, first-of-its-kind event in the state. The maiden conclave TALAASH was themed as “Building Human Capital: Skill-Innovation-Entrepreneurship”.
