‘Decision taken in haste’
Ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) legislator Javed Baig Mondaybatted for Haseeb Drabu after he was unceremoniously stripped of the portfolio.
Talking to Rising Kashmir, Baig said the decision was akin to the decision taken by the Congress when they removed Mufti Muhammad Sayeed as the chief minister of Jammu Kashmir in 2006 when he had been successfully running the government in the State.
“Following that whatever has been happening in the State is for everyone to see,” he said.
Baig said another such decision was taken when senior PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig was recalled by Sayeed as the Deputy Chief Minister of the State.
“I listened to Drabu’s speech, and it is apparent that he was trying to make some other point,” he said. “May be he did not say in a manner he did not wish to say but the party should at least have given him a week’s time respond and if he would have been adamant, then remove him.”
Baig said PDP leadership had acted in haste to remove Drabu.
“Tomorrow as a human being, I too can err but should the party remove me despite my complete dedication of being with the party and the party president till the end of my life,” he said.
Baig said Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is wise enough but the party leadership who took the decision of stripping Drabu of the ministry should have given him a week’s time to explain his position rather than buckling under the pressure of the separatists and opposition National Conference.
