Killed Hizb militants tested COVID-19 positive, Police claims

 Police on Sunday claimed that the two militants of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen outfit, who were killed in a gunfight with the forces in south Kashmir's Kulgam district on Saturday, tested positive for COVID-19.
Police said besides conducting legal formalities, it was also conducting medical formalities of the killed militants, which also included testing for coronavirus.
It said the samples were collected from the two militants, who were killed in a gunfight with the forces at Arrah village of Kukgam on Saturday, and sent for COVID-19 testing at the Chest Disease Hospital in Srinagar.
“The test reports were received from CD Hospital Srinagar on Sunday and both the killed militants were confirmed as coronavirus positive," Police said.
On Saturday, two militants were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of gunfight at Arrah.
Police had identified one of the killed militants as Ali Bhai alias Haider, a foreigner.
The bodies of the militants were carried through protective care ambulance and buried strictly as per the COVID-19 protocol at Baramulla, Police said.
This is the first time when the Police claimed that the killed militants have tested positive for coronavirus in Kashmir.
“Medico-legal formalities are strictly followed in respect of killed militants, which includes post-mortem, DNA, and COVID-19 tests,” Police said.
This year 121 militants of various outfits have been killed in the anti-militancy operations across the Valley.
