Traffic restored on Kashmir highway

Rising Kashmir News

Traffic was restored on the 300-km-long Kashmir highway, connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the world, after remaining suspended for several hours due to landslides on Thursday night.

Meanwhile, traffic on the Srinagar-Leh national highway was delayed on Friday due to slippery road conditions following fresh snowfall between Sonmarg and Zojila, a traffic police official said.

Decision to allow traffic on 86-km-long historic Mughal road, linking Shopian with Rajouri and Poonch, will be taken later as the road remained slippery in the morning and evening hours due to below freezing temperature, he said.

He said traffic on Kashmir highway was suspended last night following landslides at Ramsu.

However, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the highway, immediately pressed into service sophisticated machines and men to remove the landslides.
