Smart poles to be installed under smart city project in Srinagar

Srinagar, Nov 22: Under the smart city project, Srinagar will soon have smart poles across the city with modern facilities attached.
According to a Smart City Project official in Srinagar, the department issued tenders for the same some time ago. The work on this project will begin after the completion of the documentation work for the project, he added. 
The officer said these smart poles will have some modern facilities, which include “3X cameras, an RGB light stick, and 2X LED screens, as well as a street light, a 110V USB charger, a panic button, and a car charger.”
Besides this, Srinagar will have EV charging stations, intelligent street lighting, multi-level parking, sports facilities, a water transportation system in the Jhelum River, decorative LED lighting around Dal Lake, and walkways and kiosks along the Jhelum River Bund as part of the "Smart City Mission."
The city of Srinagar will be given a new look as well, with the beautification of the Jhelum River bund, revetment and embankment of river banks, enhancement of Ghats, area illumination along river banks, pedestrian walkways and footpaths, boardwalks, walkways, and cycle tracks.
"Several other projects are being considered as part of the prestigious Smart City project.Many of them had been completed, while work on many prestigious projects was still ongoing.”
The city of Srinagar will also have smart bus stops for pedestrians as part of this project; these bus stops will have new “LED lighting, real-time bus arrival information, a USB port, and free wifi.” However, the official didn’t share further details about when work will start on making of these smart bus stops.
The projects in Srinagar City include the construction of the Traditional Souq Market and Craft Centre at Batamaloo at an estimated cost of Rs 31.22 crores, the upgrading and improvement of the Batamaloo-Qamarwari Road at a cost of Rs 14.61 crores, and the Batamaloo-Mominabad Road at a cost of Rs 10.24 crores.
In addition to a designated plaza for cultural activities, exhibitions, and a distinct organized vending zone, the Traditional Souq Market and Craft Centre at Batamaloo will provide a retail facility for handicrafts, dry fruits, spices, and other unique things of Kashmir.
As part of the Srinagar Smart City Initiative, the Integrated Command and Control Center and SMC's Drainage Scheme at Shalteng in the city's outer suburbs serve as the city's situation room, combining municipal activities and providing chances for data-driven decision-making. Facilities are offering a centralized platform designed to track and handle public problems in real-time.
Five long-term goals—smart mobility, smart economics, smart environment, smart living, and smart governance—are the focus of Srinagar Smart City's integrated approach to operation. The use of technology in urban governance has improved efficiency.
Overhead power cables are being replaced with underground cables under the Srinagar Smart City project. For the purpose of registering complaints about electricity outages and water scarcity, a public feedback mechanism is now available online.
