A young girl from Hyderpora area in Srinagar district has achieved a national record by becoming the youngest river rafter in India.
MehnoorBintiObaid accomplished this feat on August 18, 2023, when she was just 2 years old.
While talking to the Rising Kashmir, ObaidYousufReshi, Mehnoor's father, shared that his daughter successfully completed the rafting activity under the supervision of a team of trained professionals on August 18 ,2023.
"The India Book of Records, the official curators and custodians of all Indian Records, have confirmed this remarkable achievement," Reshi said.
He said that when I was only ten years of age, I became the youngest para-sailor in Jammu and Kashmir. Parasailing was a popular water sport at Dal Lake, Srinagar during that time. I hope that my daughter will also excel in sports, just like I did in my family.
"Mehnoor's dedication to setting this record was evident as she spent a full hour navigating the river, covering an impressive distance of 13 kilometres. Her accomplishment not only highlights her adventurous nature but also the unwavering support she received from her parents. This achievement is truly remarkable, especially considering that no other child of her age has ever attempted white-water rafting before," said Obaid
Mehnoor's feat serves as a testament to her determination and bravery, setting an example for others to follow. Her success in conquering the river at such a young age demonstrates her potential for future accomplishments. With her fearless attitude and adventurous spirit, Mehnoor is poised to achieve even greater things in the years ahead.
Whitewater rafting is a thrilling adventure activity that entails navigating through turbulent waters formed by the river flowing over rocks using a raft. It is an exciting water sport, and trying it at a young age is truly commendable. Mehnoor's accomplishment demonstrates her bravery in facing fear and taking on the challenge on her initial attempt. The level of difficulty in white-water rafting can range depending on the water's current, and Mehnoor took on a Grade 3-4 river, signifying a moderate to challenging level.
